Before you travel – Ethiopia

  • How much data

A week of maps, translation and social media usually fits in 3–5 GB. Sharing data with a laptop or streaming video, take 10 GB or more.

  • Networks and speed

Plans use Safaricom. Every plan supports 5G. Your phone picks the network itself; there is nothing to set up.

  • When validity starts

When the eSIM first connects at your destination. Install it at home on Wi-Fi a few days before you leave; you lose no days.

  • Calls and texts

Plans are data only. Call over WhatsApp, FaceTime or Messenger. Texts from your bank still reach your home SIM if you leave it on and switch off only its data.
